Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU)

Pinta’s long term relationship with the Irish League of Credit Unions continues into its 8th year.

We have provided on-going HR Support for the ILCU and assisted Credit Unions to manage the changing dynamics within a regulated environment. This HR Support involved assisting management teams to support their team members in reaching their potential by clarifying roles and responsibilities and providing HR advice and guidance.

The Credit Union Movement has encountered unprecedented change in recent years and were faced with a ‘perfect storm’ situation which outlines three main challenges:

  1. Investment income is falling, typically where a Credit Union could rely on achieving a a high return on its investment – all indicators would now suggest that significant drop in returns would be the new reality.
  1. Operating costs are increasing – new legislation has resulted in increased operating costs for Credit Unions – a requirement exists for additional skills and competencies e.g Risk and Compliance function  and traditionally roles largely were carried out by volunteers at no cost to the Credit Union. A second requirement under the 2012 Credit Union Act is a significant requirement for training of volunteers at a cost to the Credit Union to assist in implementing fundamental procedural and process changes.
  1. Reduced business – loan books are dropping as members are paying off loans faster and not rolling over loans in an effort to reduce their total borrowings. Thereby impacting the second major source of revenues for Credit Unions – interest.

A consequence of these challenges is credit unions now need to shape and structure their organisations to become flexible and adaptable financial institutions and  implement an operational framework that enables credit unions to serve their members effectively and efficiently within a new market dynamic.

We have worked with over 40 credit unions and across multiple projects involving:

  • Organisational Reviews
  • HR Review & Due Dilligence
  • Strategic Review & Development
  • Recruitment
  • HR Support
  • Member Engagement & Satisfaction
  • Marketing Plan Development
  • Coaching & Mentoring

Here is a sample of the testimonials we have received from our Credit Union customers

Kilmallock  & District Credit Union

In Early December 2013 our Board enlisted the help of Pinta to produce a plan for the implementation of the many requirements of CUCORA.

We met with Peter Hanan and worked out a programme, with timelines and costs.

Peter, Gillian and Orla were diligent and professional in their dealings with the Directors and Staff. Peter kept in contact with me at all times to discuss progress.

They produced a report, which dealt with all issues and leaves our credit union in a much better position to deal with issues such as PRISIM.

I have no hesitation-recommending Pinta to any credit union that needs help.

You won’t regret it.

Con O’Brien | Chairman, Kilmallock CU. March 2014

Elphin Credit Union

We had preliminary discussions to identify the situation and the needs of the Credit Union. Pinta worked well with the Manager and Chairman keeping us informed prior to the actual project of each step we had to take i.e. prepare file notes, questions, copies of staff contracts etc.

Worked to tight timescales they dealt with the project in hand within two weeks of the initial meeting and recommended a solution which was relevant to the needs to the Credit Union and its members.

Very important – they made recommendations for moving forward e.g. putting a correct HR framework in place and having both Manager and staff performance reviews.

Our overall experience of working with Pinta was second to none and we would have no hesitation in recommending Pinta to work with another Credit Union.

Geraldine Hoare | Manager Elphin Credit Union

Estuary Credit Union

Pinta were very pleasant to deal with and more than helpful.  Their knowledge, experience and service were exemplary. We would have no hesitation whatsoever in employing Pinta again.

Kathy O’Sullivan | Manager Estuary Credit Union

Ballincollig Credit Union

“Pinta consultants were commissioned by Ballincollig Credit Union in 2012 to liaise with the Board, Management, Staff, Members and Stakeholders and produce a Strategic Plan for the Period 2012-2015.. Pinta was also asked to assist with the staffing re-structure and the implementation of a performance management programme. Pinta was found to be very professional in their approach to both interlinked projects and Ballincollig Credit Union was very pleased with the final outcome”

Pat Moore | Director/Secretary, Ballincollig Credit Union

Claremorris Credit Union

I was requested by the Board of St. Colman’s Credit Union to work closely with Peter Hanan & Orla Cullen of Pinta to design, shape and formulate a Strategic plan for the Credit Union, over the next number of years.

I was very impressed with the professionalism and ‘can do’ attitude of both Peter & Orla. Pinta placed a large emphasis on trust from an early stage and lived up to the standards they required throughout.

They applied themselves diligently to each task and obstacle as presented and presented unflinching recommendations to the Board. Delivery times were immaculately observed as were various negotiations and planning sessions.

The above was accompanied by constant good humour and charisma, for which I personally wish to compliment them on. I would find it impossible not to recommend Pinta to any other Employer/Credit Union.

Gerry Kelly, Manager | St. Colman’s Claremorris Credit Union
